Kiiing Leo is a rapper originally from Cape Town. This talented artist started rapping since the tender age of 14, listening and studying musical genres like Hip Hop, Rap, RnB, Jazz and Soul. Some of Kiiing's major influences stem from industry icons such as Jay Electronica, MF Doom, Mos Def, Slick Rick, Lupe Fiasco and Ab-Soul. Lawrence Mashiyane, an activist writer, poet and academic, whose work reflects that society is not as far as it would like to believe in achieving equality, democracy and liberation. There is no equality, democracy is itself discriminatory and the liberation of oppressed people is largely illusionary.
As a human being and creator, Lawrence struggles with the subjective human experience that matters and the existential belief that all meaning is created and everything is largely meaningless. A thought he finds conflicting in which he says:
Being an Activist, I am very concerned with the subjective human social experience and a struggle to face and reveal the adversities that plague some people, some more than others. In a meaningless existence, why do the meanings we create and find ourselves caught in (born with and/or into) have to make our existence unpleasant? This, of course, refers to sexism, racism, homophobia and so forth.
